Economy & building

Income, objective cities, digging in, and when new units arrive.

Where do supplies come from?#

Rule of thumb: cities pay. Countryside barely does.

Every turn, each province you own pays income:

ProvincePays each turn
Rural1
City3
Capital5

A city you capture from the enemy pays half. A neutral city you capture pays in full.

What are objective cities?#

Rule of thumb: holding cities over time beats grabbing countryside.

An objective city pays +1 more for every 3 turns you hold it, up to +3. When it changes hands, the bonus starts again from zero. Every city is an objective; the province box says "Objective".

How do I build?#

  • Desktop: click one of your cities, then pick a unit.
  • Phone: tap one of your cities, then Build here, then pick a unit.

Supplies left are shown at the top of your orders. A build that can't happen costs nothing.

When do new units appear?#

Rule of thumb: new units arrive at the end of the turn, after every battle. They can't save a city this turn.

A build only happens in a city you held at the start of the turn and still hold at the end. If the city falls during the turn, the build doesn't happen and you keep the supplies.

What should I build?#

Rule of thumb: each unit has one job. Buy for the job.

UnitCostAttackDefenseMoveIts job
Infantry3121Hold ground. The best defense for its cost.
Armor63.522Attack. The best attack for its cost, and it moves 2.
Artillery5111Support a battle next door: +2 per gun, without being in it.
Air8–––Strike a battle up to 3 provinces away: +3 per plane, from its city.

A good army mixes them: infantry to hold the cities and soak up losses, armor to break through on plains, guns and planes to make every attack count.

What does "dug in" mean?#

Rule of thumb: a city's defenders grow stronger the longer you hold it.

Defenders in your own city get up to +25% (+50% in a capital). Starting cities are fully dug in. A city that changes hands starts from nothing and builds up over 5 turns. Neutral garrisons never dig in.
